Metablue seeks funding for AI-powered thermometer to detect ear infections

Part of the Health from Portugal (HfPT) Mobilizing Agenda, integrated into the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), Otitest uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect ear infections in children.

Developed by Metablue Solution, a University of Porto spin-off and HfPT Consortium partner, the device is a connected medical instrument resembling an ear thermometer that enables early detection of ear infections in babies and young children.

The technology combines thermal and optical sensors with AI to interpret clinical signs of otitis media and assess its likelihood. It is paired with an app that allows parents to view results and track their child’s ear health over time, especially during periods of the year when ear infections are more frequent.
